UKAS Calibration
What is calibration
Calibration, basically involves the comparison of a measuring instrument to a Standard of known accuracy. The known standard would typically be more accurate, it would have its own calibration certificate. All UK calibrations should have a traceable chain back to the National Standard, which is ordinarily held by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)
What is UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service)
UKAS Calibration is a calibration that is externally audited to conform to the ISO-17025 standard. Laboratories are accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 which is the internationally recognised standard for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories. Our own systems, people, their training, and our technical capabilities are regularly and thoroughly examined and tested by a team of UKAS auditors, each of them specialists in their field. It is an expensive and time consuming process, but our ongoing accreditation and fulfillment of the requirements of ISO_17025 means you can rest assured that we have the competence, impartiality and performance capability necessary to consistently deliver technically valid calibration results each and every time
Beware of ISO_9000 Calibration
It is well worth noting that the ISO_9000 is not a calibration standard and any company offering a ISO_9000 calibration is selling snake oil. A calibration can meet the demands of your ISO_9000 requirements, however, in order to check this then the liability is on you as the customer and your quality manager to conduct an adequate onsite audit of that supplier. ISO_9000 auditors actively state, usually on the companies ISO_9000 QA certificate that they do not check calibration processes.
Why choose a UKAS Calibration Supplier
UKAS Accreditation is an assurance to businesses that suppliers meet internationally recognised requirements for integrity and competence through regular UKAS assessments.
